Why Searchmaker exists
Searchmaker started with a developer who ran into slow WooCommerce search on a large catalog and, instead of adding another layer on top of the database queries, built a purpose-built index to answer them. The engine came first; the WooCommerce plugin is a thin layer that talks to it through the same public API anyone else could use.
How we build it
- Engine first. The index and query engine is a plain PHP library. Search, filters and the Google Merchant feed all read the same index.
- No cloud dependency. It runs on the hosting you already have. Nothing about your catalog or your shoppers is sent to us, and license keys are verified offline.
- Open language packs. The synonym packs are open data under CC BY 4.0, free to use and improve.
- Measured, and honest about it. We publish what we measured, on which setup, and what is still missing, on the benchmarks page and in the technical paper.
Where we are today
Early access. The first customers are welcome, and we reply personally to every message. If something does not work on your shop, we want to hear about it.
